Lead and coordinate the implementation of IPR SHE Compliance governance programs, to develop IPR leadership and employees capabilities in maintaining a robust compliance culture and performance at all times, while insuring controls are effectively implemented to meet and deliver goals aligned with AZ requirements and government requirements.
Assess and lead SHE performance level and culture across the organization.
Develop, implement, monitor and communicate, as applicable, appropriate strategies to maintain a continuous improvement process.
Provide visibility and influence the implementation of required actions among SLT members and IPR Leadership.
Establishes systems to effectively report SHE required information to regulatory agencies as well as AstraZeneca.
Provides leadership and direction in areas such as risk management, regulatory compliance, safety programs, strategy planning including leadership in sustainability area under scope of this role.
Typical Accountabilities Ensures compliance with internal and external requirements such as government agencies.
Optimize performance of direct reports, contractors under scope of the position and SME’s to build and deliver impact in their contribution.
Business Process Owner for SHE Management Systems.
Collaborate with IPR Leadership, to ensure that SHE robust programs, procedures and systems are in place geared for the protection of personnel and assets consistent with regulatory agencies, AZ requirements and best practices.
Assure Safety, Health & Environment program is followed for the site and hold the organization accountable for the SHE compliance (local, federal and AZ policies).
Ensure a leadership role in developing/maintaining a culture where leadership and staff employees are engaged and accountable of SHE compliance and performance.
Proactively influence IPR Leadership Team to accomplish such objective.
Maintains high visibility of IPR performance through appropriate Key Performance Indicators and lead management in the identification of strategies to manage opportunities.
Ensures that IPR maintains appropriate communication strategy and forums at management and staff levels, where Safety, Health & Environment compliance is monitored, issues discussed and corrective actions identified to mitigate opportunities.
Ensures that IPR Leadership proactively incorporates SHE considerations into the design of physical facilities, processes, new product introduction as well as in the management of change processes.
Provide technical assistance in such activities.
Monitors that operational and projects hazards are assessed and corrective actions implemented to mitigate risks, through robust risk assessments, inspections and audits systems.
Ensures that SHE staff/SMEs develop such systems and monitor its effective implementation by IPR Leadership.
Ensures that a SHE training program/system and the Industrial Hygiene program are implemented by the SHE staff/SMEs, meeting high quality standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies and AZ requirements.
Influence the development of SHE capabilities among IPR workforce.
Monitors that IPR Leadership investigates all incidents, accidents and illnesses through an appropriate methodology emphasizing in root cause analysis, timely implementation of corrective actions as well as communication of lessons learned.
Assure that deep dives are conducted on root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions are robust to avoid reoccurrence for the site (all areas).
Promote the proactive and preventive practices and behaviours as well as the prompt identification and correction of at-risk conditions and behaviours.
Administrate Health program, Dispensary and iPR Wellness Club services along with all the activities related (supervise health services contractors, related permits, health surveillance clinics, etc.
).
Maintain permits compliance for the site at all times (license to operate).
Prepares, submits, and obtains approval for Safety, Health & Environment permits applications, notifications and/or documents under the requirements of regulations.
Complies with reporting and record keeping requirements to ensure site license to operate.
Sponsors and/or manage projects to implement or improve SHE programs/systems or for other site projects as assigned.
Prepare/manage annual budget to ensure appropriate funds are allocated to areas of responsibility and monitor the budget expenditure.
Participate in AZ Global SHE, Americas Region SHE and other AZ forums as well as participate in assigned external forums (i.
e.
; Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association SHE committees).
Education / Experience Bachelors in science or Engineering plus ten (10+) years of experience managing the development and implementation of safety, health, environment and compliance programs in the pharmaceutical / manufacturing environment, especially in working/influencing middle & senior leadership.
Language Fully bilingual English and Spanish in writing, speaking and reading comprehension.
Digital literacy To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office, Word Processing, Power Point, Explorer Internet software and Excel Spreadsheet software.
Other Ability to design strategic and tactical work plans and work collaboratively with work groups in order to implement them effectively and in a timely manner.
Ability to communicate in a proactive and assertive manner, influence processes and reach collaborative agreements with external and internal clients, especially with IPR SLT members and leadership, AZ Global SHE, Americas Region SHE, Compliance Network and governmental authorities.
Knowledge of local/federal governmental Safety, Health and Environmental regulations.
