*Middle & Upper School Music Teacher* The Middle & Upper School Music faculty member teaches five sections of 7th through 12th grade choral and instrumental music, according to the needs of the school.
She/he also organizes seasonal music concerts for students, parents, and the community.
She/he is responsible for an advisory group; advises one or more student clubs or activities; attends various faculty and committee meetings as required; and performs other duties as assigned.
The Middle & Upper School music teacher works collaboratively with the Middle & Upper School Steel Pan teacher, the Lower School music teacher, and all his/her colleagues, attends various faculty and committee meetings as required, and performs other duties as assigned.
*RESPONSIBILITIES:* 1.
Teaches a full-time teaching load of five sections of 7th through 12th grade choral and instrumental classes, as assigned.
This assignment comprises teaching students of all levels, from beginning to advanced, in both choral and instrumental music.
2.
Develops and teaches a well-balanced music curriculum that introduces students to choral and instrumental music from around the globe, and intentionally develops student music skills from one grade to the next.
3.
Collaborates with the Lower School music teacher and the Middle & Upper School Steel Pan teacher to review and strengthen the N-12 music curriculum, and to integrate the study of music with core class content.
4.
Serves as a student advisor, as assigned.
5.
Advises the school’s music society, Tri-M, and other clubs and/or activities as assigned, in accordance with the teacher’s expertise and interests.
6.
Is available to students for extra help as needed.
7.
Provides prompt assessment feedback to students, and meets deadlines for the reporting of grades and comments.
8.
Communicates student progress to parents using online grading software, email, phone calls, conferences, and other appropriate methods, as needed.
9.
Responds promptly to communications from students, parents, and school personnel (generally within one full workday of receiving said communications).
10.
Ensures an optimal classroom environment with clear and reasonable expectations for student conduct.
11.
Adheres to the provisions of the GHCDS Employee Handbook.
12.
Adheres to the high standards and the expectations of ethical behavior delineated by the National Association of Independent Schools’ Principles of Good Practice.
*ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:* *Education:* 1.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s degree preferred.
A degree in music and/or music education preferred; coursework in music and/or music education required.
2.
Continuing professional development in teaching and learning, music, and/or related areas.
3.
Completion of Cambridge International Training is helpful but not required.
*Experience:* 1.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience is preferred.
2.
Prior teaching experience in music preferred.
3.
Knowledge of and/or desire to learn about the culture and peoples of St.
Croix.
4.
Prior experience in Cambridge International is helpful but not required.
*Required Skills and Attributes:* 1.
Knowledge of Middle and/or Upper School teaching and learning in choral and instrumental music.
2.
Knowledge of best practices for teaching students from 7th to 12th grades.
3.
Fluency in choral and instrumental music.
4.
Commitment to stay abreast of recent developments in the teaching of music.
5.
Strong organizational, oral communication, and written communication skills.
6.
Ability to function well in a team and to work well with students, parents, and school personnel.
7.
Creative and practical problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal skills.
8.
Flexible and can work with minimal supervision.
9.
Integrity and good judgment.

m.
to 4 p.
m.
* Tuesday: 8 a.
m.
to 5 p.
m.
* Plus, occasional evenings and weekends.
*Start Date:* The person selected will begin work on Monday, August 12, 2024, with New Faculty Orientation.
The person’s last commitment for the 2024-25 school year is Saturday, June 14, 2025.
*Compensation:* Full-time GHCDS teaching salaries range from $34,000 (first-year teacher with bachelor’s degree) to $56,667 (highly experienced teacher with an advanced degree), per the GHCDS 2024-25 salary scale.
Some responsibilities come with a stipend if they fall outside of school hours.
