Recruitment Notes
This position will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Library Department’s system-wide programming and outreach efforts in the community.
This is entry-level professional library work supporting department operations.
The incumbent in this position will be responsible for facilitating and serving in a supervisory capacity for systemwide outreach events, large-scale library programs, and campaigns as part of the Community Engagement and Programming Unit.
This position entails assisting and staffing for numerous, simultaneous programs for library campaigns and/or outreach opportunities.
Outreach and programming support may comprise about 60% of the worktime dependent on community events and programming schedules, and may include support for Mobile Services.
In addition, this position will be tasked with the monitoring and assessment of large-scale library programs and scheduled outreach events, including acting as the supervisor for library programs and community outreach at events which may take place indoors or outdoors.
This position entails the use of written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, statistical data collection and reporting, submitting incident reports, completing performance evaluations, generating work orders, ordering materials, monitoring inventories, staffing service desks, training colleagues and peers, making public presentations, and serving on systemwide committees.
This position will reside at the Main Library of the Library Department and will report to a Librarian 2.
The incumbent in this position may supervise paraprofessional staff as required.
This position may be required to function as the supervisor-in-charge in the absence of the Librarian 2 or other senior staff.
At times, the incumbent in this position may be required to operate a cargo van or other vehicles to make deliveries of outreach materials, program supplies, and equipment for the set-up and break-down of library events and activations.
The Librarian 1 may be required to work mornings, evenings, and weekends with expected flexibility in scheduling - subject to staffing needs for programming and community requests for outreach.
